How to Avoid a Data Entry Job Scam
Sites like Craigslist are a popular target for these data entry business scams. They are listed among jobs that are legitimate. The jobs are posted by your city and state. Once you send your resume over, you discover that there isn’t a job at all but a mailing list. The list will be sold more than once as they do not care how many mailings you receive.
When looking at a job on Craigslist, keep this in mind:
Look for information that shows the ad is local and not cut and pasted by someone who doesn’t live there. A job posting will give the part of town the job is located in. A real employer knows that if a job is across town, you may not want to apply for it. They put the area of town in the posting to help cut down on the amount of calls and resumes they would receive without it. A data entry business scam will not have anything that gives you town information in the posting. There is no way to reach them. When you apply for a job, you usually have someone to send your resume to or call. If they do not want you to know initially what the name of the company is, they may give you a P.O. Box or a generic name to send your resume to. Data entry business scams do not have anyone to refer to or follow up with. Starting date. Data entry job scams will be very vague with start information or appear as if they required you last week. Most employers know that the process will take a few weeks, so they don’t appear like they will have to close until you get there. If you don’t give notice, you aren’t the kind of employee they want. There is not a real job waiting for you with scam artists so they are unconcerned about that part.
The ad will make the position sound so good that you won’t care that something doesn’t seem right. In today’s economy, there are a lot of people who require jobs. The data entry opportunity scams seem impressive when you read them. Once you read it, you will submit your resume. You will email it out when you first see the posting to get it looked at first. In your mind, you want to be the first in line when in reality there is no opportunity at all. This type of ad gives false hope to the person who applies. And once they do apply, they are hit with all types of spam in their mailbox and even at the home address that they put on the CV.
